1. Agreement

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use ofthelocalreadery.com (the “Site”) operated by The Local Readery (“we,” “us,” or “our”). By using the Site, creating an account, subscribing to our newsletter, or completing a purchase, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.

2. About Our Bookstore

The Local Readery is a Utah pop-up indie bookstore focused on books by Utah authors. Our online catalog at the bookstore lists titles we carry or source through our inventory partners. Product availability, pricing, and stock levels may change without notice.

3. Purchases & Payments (Square)

Online purchases are processed by Square, Inc. and its affiliates (“Square”). When you check out, you authorize us and Square to charge your selected payment method for the order total, applicable taxes, and shipping when offered.

  • Payment information — Card details are collected by Square’s secure Web Payments flow. We do not store full card numbers on our servers.
  • Order confirmation — A successful payment creates a Square order and payment record tied to your purchase.
  • Sandbox testing — During development or testing, transactions may run in Square’s sandbox environment and will not represent live charges.
  • Third-party terms — Square’s services are subject to Square’s Terms of Service and Square Privacy Notice.

4. Pricing, Taxes & Fulfillment

All prices are shown in U.S. dollars unless otherwise stated. We reserve the right to correct pricing errors and to cancel orders placed at an incorrect price. Utah sales tax and shipping charges, when applicable, will be calculated and disclosed before you complete payment. Physical fulfillment methods (pickup, shipping, or pop-up delivery) will be communicated at checkout or by email after purchase.

5. Returns & Refunds

Because we are a small indie bookstore, return and refund requests are handled case by case. Contact us within 14 days of receipt if an item arrives damaged, defective, or not as described. Refunds, when approved, are issued to the original payment method through Square where possible.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Site for unlawful, fraudulent, or abusive purposes;
  • Attempt to interfere with checkout, security, or Site performance;
  • Scrape, copy, or resell our catalog or content without permission;
  • Misrepresent your identity or payment authorization.

7. Analytics & Site Measurement

We use or plan to use privacy-conscious analytics and performance tools to understand how visitors use the Site, including:

  • Cloudflare — security, CDN, and aggregated traffic analytics;
  • Google Analytics 4 (GA4) — audience and conversion measurement;
  • PostHog — product analytics and optional session insights.

8. Intellectual Property

Site content — including branding, copy, layout, and curated listings — is owned by The Local Readery or used with permission. Book cover art, author names, and publisher marks belong to their respective owners.

9. Disclaimers

The Site is provided “as is” and “as available.” We do not guarantee uninterrupted access, error-free checkout, or that every listed title remains in stock. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties not required by applicable law.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by Utah and U.S. law, The Local Readery is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Site or any purchase, except where such limitation is prohibited.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, without regard to conflict of law principles. Disputes will be brought in courts located in Utah, unless otherwise required by law.

12. Changes

We may update these Terms as our bookstore, analytics stack, or legal requirements evolve. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date above.
